The Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared 23 bottled water brands unsafe for human consumption after detecting serious microbiological and chemical contamination.

The announcement follows the agency’s quality monitoring for the second quarter of 2025, carried out under government directives to ensure consumer safety.

From April to June, PCRWR collected 203 samples from 21 major cities and tested them according to standards set by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).

The findings revealed that 11 brands contained excessive sodium, including New Mehran, Aqua 111, Nice Pure Max, Pure Drinking Water, Logic, Himalya Cool, Natural Pure Life, Natural, Forever Bottled Drinking Water, Drinkly Pure Drinking Water, and Qudrat Water.

Four other brands—Atco Drinking Water, Aqua Nest, Pani, and New Mountain—were found to contain dangerously high levels of arsenic, a toxic chemical linked to long-term health risks such as cancer.

One brand, Vey Forever, exceeded the safe limit for potassium. Additionally, nine brands were contaminated with bacteria: Noble Pure Drinking Water, Aqua 111, Clear, Wah Water, Nice Pure Max, Aqua King, Maa Jee, Freshin, and Iceland.

PCRWR has urged the public to review the complete test report available online and verify the safety of bottled water brands before consumption.
