The Finance Committee has approved a salary hike for members of the National Assembly and Senate, raising their monthly earnings to Rs519,000, effective January 1, 2025.
However, the salaries of the National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker will remain unchanged at Rs218,000, as the committee lacks the authority to revise their pay, the Speaker’s Office confirmed.

A proposal to align lawmakers’ salaries with those of federal secretaries was recently submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Following approval from the National Assembly’s finance committee, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq forwarded the recommendation to the prime minister.
The proposal set the new salary and allowances for MNAs and senators at Rs519,000, the same amount received by federal secretaries after deductions.
Earlier, a demand to raise lawmakers’ pay to Rs1 million per month was rejected by the speaker. The move to increase salaries was backed by PPP, PML-N, and other parties, arguing that lawmakers should receive compensation equal to top federal officials.
Additionally, 67 PTI lawmakers also submitted written requests supporting a salary increase. The committee also recommended extending federal secretary-level perks to legislators.
