Lahore’s 30-Year Rainfall Record Broken

Lahore recorded its highest rainfall in a day in 30 years, with the Tajpura area receiving 315 mm of rain, according to a private news channel.

The rain started early in the morning and continued intermittently throughout the day, affecting various parts of the city.

Residents faced major challenges with waterlogged roads and disruptions to daily life. The most rainfall was in Tajpura, but other areas also saw substantial amounts: Lakshmi Chowk had 170 mm, Nishtar Town 162 mm, and Chowk Nakhuda 155 mm.

Sialkot and nearby regions also experienced intermittent rainfall.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Director General Mehr Sahibzad Khan revealed that this year’s monsoon rains are expected to surpass normal levels. 

In the past 11 days, Pakistan received 8% more rain than usual. Punjab’s rainfall increased by 59%, while Sindh saw a 62% decrease. Khan reassured that despite the heavy rains, there is currently no emergency in the rivers.
