Waheed Ahmed, Chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Association, spoke today about the significant impact of climate change on Pakistan’s mango crop. He disclosed that mango production has decreased by 35% this year due to unfavorable climate conditions.

Ahmed stated that since 2013, climate change has increasingly affected Pakistan, with rising global temperatures threatening agriculture and food security. He warned that without immediate action, the country could face serious food shortages soon.

Ahmed highlighted the global issue of climate change, pointing to recent heatwave fatalities in Karachi during June and July as examples of the risks posed by higher temperatures.

He also mentioned last year’s need to import large amounts of onions and tomatoes due to local production shortfalls as further evidence of climate change’s impact on agriculture.

He urged policymakers and stakeholders to focus on climate resilience strategies in agriculture to protect crops and livelihoods from the growing effects of climate change.
