PMD Predicts Rain, Thunderstorms Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast dust storms, windstorms and rain-thunderstorms in several parts of the country from June 11 to June 13 due to a western weather system expected to enter the upper regions.

According to a weather advisory issued on Wednesday, the western disturbance is likely to affect upper parts of the country from June 11 and remain active until June 13. Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are also expected to penetrate upper and central regions during the period.

The PMD said scattered dust storms and rain-thunderstorms, with chances of heavy rainfall and hailstorms at isolated locations, are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat and various districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Gujrat, Sargodha, Jhang, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.

Similar weather conditions are forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, Astore and Ghanche.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-thunderstorms and dust storms are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber, Waziristan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram.

The Met Office also forecast dust storms and rain-thunderstorms in northeastern Balochistan, including Zhob, Sherani, Ziarat, Qillah Saifullah, Barkhan and Dera Bugti.

In Sindh, dust storms are expected in upper districts, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur and Shaheed Benazirabad.

The PMD warned that strong winds, hailstorms and lightning could damage weak structures, solar panels, electric poles and billboards during the forecast period.

It also cautioned that heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore and Faisalabad, while landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Farmers have been advised to manage their activities according to the weather conditions, while tourists and travelers have been urged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.

The PMD advised all relevant authorities to remain alert and take precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
