Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has forecast that Eid ul Adha is likely to fall on May 27 in Pakistan.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, SUPARCO said the new moon of Zilhajj 1447 AH is expected to be born on May 17 at 1:01am.

According to the agency, the moon’s age at sunset on May 17 will be around 18 hours and 30 minutes, while the time difference between sunset and moonset along Pakistan’s coastal areas is expected to be approximately 60 minutes.

SUPARCO said these astronomical conditions make the sighting of the Zilhajj crescent on the evening of May 17 favorable, subject to weather conditions and visibility near the horizon.

Based on its forecast, the agency said the first of Zilhajj is expected to fall on May 18, which would place Eid ul Adha on May 27.

However, SUPARCO clarified that the final decision regarding moon sighting and the beginning of the Islamic month will be made by the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee based on verified testimonies and observations from across the country.
