The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast dust-thunderstorms and rain in several upper parts of the country from May 10 to May 12 as a fresh westerly wave is expected to enter northwestern regions on Saturday evening.

According to the Met Office, the weather system is likely to persist in upper areas until the night of May 12, bringing rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms to multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The PMD said dust-thunderstorms and rain are expected in districts including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram, and Bajaur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 10 evening to May 12.

In Punjab and Islamabad, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, and surrounding areas during the same period.

Meanwhile, rain-wind and thunderstorms are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan districts including Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Astore, Ghizer, and Diamir, as well as areas of Kashmir including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Kotli, and Mirpur from May 11 to May 13.

The weather department said the system is likely to provide relief from hot weather conditions in upper parts of the country. However, very hot weather is expected to continue in southern Punjab, Sindh, and parts of Balochistan.

The PMD warned that strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels during the forecast period.

Farmers have been advised to manage crop activities carefully, particularly during wheat harvesting season, while tourists and travelers were urged to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas.

The department also warned of possible landslides in hilly regions of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, and advised all concerned authorities to remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents.
