The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has suspended the licenses of six beauty cream brands for failing to meet safety and quality standards, including the detection of hazardous substances such as mercury.

In a written reply, Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi said the products violated Pakistan Standard Specification 3228 2025, which defines safety limits for cosmetic items.

The affected brands include Golden Pearl Beauty Cream, Parley 24K Gold Beauty Cream, Goree Beauty Cream, and Face Fresh Beauty Cream, among others. Samples were collected during routine market checks and tested by the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Test results showed the presence of harmful substances, including mercury, arsenic, and microbial contamination. Authorities warned that such ingredients can cause skin damage and other health complications.

Following the findings, authorities have banned the production, storage, and sale of non-compliant skin creams. The PSQCA said the licenses will remain suspended until manufacturers meet the required standards.

The authority said it is continuing market surveillance to remove unsafe products and ensure compliance, as part of efforts to safeguard public health and improve cosmetic safety standards.
