Uncertainty regarding school schedules has spread across Punjab after social media posts claimed that changes were being considered to the winter vacations for educational institutions.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat later confirmed that the provincial government has not approved any extension of winter vacations and that schools and colleges will resume academic activities on January 12, 2026.

The minister rejected the circulating claims as baseless and advised parents, students, and teachers to disregard unverified information. He emphasized that no proposal related to extending holidays is under consideration.
The Punjab Education Department had earlier notified winter vacations for all public and private schools and colleges from December 22, 2025, through January 10, 2026.
However, reports indicate that some private institutions failed to comply with the official schedule. Instead of issuing formal notifications, these institutions allegedly directed students via WhatsApp messages to return to classes on January 6, 2026.
The situation has caused concern among parents and education circles, who have urged the authorities to issue clear instructions and ensure full compliance with the officially announced winter vacation period across the province.
