The Punjab government is moving forward with plans to launch 27 metro buses and two trams on the new Orange Line route, a 20-kilometer corridor stretching from Faisal Town on Jaranwala Road to Tahirpur on Jhang Road.

Officials expect Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to perform the groundbreaking ceremony in the coming days. Member Punjab Mass Transit Authority and former chief secretary Capt (Ret.) Zahid Saeed chaired a meeting with Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar, where officials confirmed that the PC-1 for the project has been approved.

They said the corridor will feature 22 stations, two depots, and six U-turns. During the meeting, the Member Mass Transit Authority and the commissioner directed WASA, FESCO, Sui Gas, PHA, the Municipal Corporation, and the Traffic Police to immediately begin shifting utility services in line with the project’s alignment.

They asked all departments to meet again next week to finalize timelines for the relocation work. Officials said the Orange Line service will become a major public transport option for Faisalabad, noting that thousands of passengers are expected to use the route daily.

They emphasized the need to notify residents along the corridor in advance about temporary service disruptions during utility shifting. Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir, the Managing Director of the Mass Transit Authority, and officials from all relevant departments attended the meeting.
