Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate first-ever electric bus service in Rawalpindi later this month, a project aimed at introducing sustainable and eco-friendly public transport to the city.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi announced the development while addressing members of the Rawalpindi Traders Association. He said the launch of electric buses would mark a significant upgrade in urban mobility, providing commuters with a safe, comfortable, and cost-effective travel option.

The system, he noted, would particularly benefit working professionals, women, and students who rely on public transport daily.

Abbasi said the project aligns with the Punjab government’s vision of modern, clean, and efficient transportation. He added that it would also help reduce traffic congestion and improve the city’s air quality by cutting down on emissions from conventional buses.

The event was attended by Federal Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, MPA Ziaullah Shah, Sardar Naseem, and representatives from the business community.

Highlighting ongoing progress in Rawalpindi’s infrastructure, Abbasi credited the federal and provincial leadership for projects such as the Metro Bus, new educational institutions, and technical centers.

He also mentioned that a Saudi delegation is scheduled to visit Pakistan soon to explore new investment opportunities, signaling international trust in the government’s economic policies.
