The night sky is set to put on a dazzling display as the first Supermoon of 2025 rises on October 7. Stargazers in Pakistan and around the world will be able to witness the full moon appearing significantly larger and brighter than usual.
A Supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, a position known as perigee. This proximity makes the moon look about 14 percent larger and up to 30 percent brighter compared to when it is at its farthest point.

According to astronomers, the October 7 Supermoon will come as close as 224,599 miles to Earth, making it the nearest such event since November 2024. The sight is expected to be particularly striking, offering observers a luminous, oversized moon dominating the night sky.
This will not be the only Supermoon of the year. Two more are scheduled for November 5 and December 5. The November occurrence is forecast to be the brightest of 2025, with the moon coming within 221,817 miles of Earth. Although another Supermoon will occur in January 2026, it will fall outside the current calendar year.
On average, the world sees three to four Supermoons annually. For many, the upcoming October spectacle will mark the beginning of a memorable season of celestial shows.
