Total Lunar Eclipse Date and Time Announced in Pakistan

Skywatchers across Pakistan will witness a total lunar eclipse on the night of September 7 (Sunday), the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has announced.

The rare celestial event will begin at 8:30pm, peak at 11:57pm, and conclude at 1:55am. Suparco said the eclipse will be visible in Asia, Africa, and parts of Europe, with clear visibility expected in most parts of Pakistan, weather permitting.

A lunar eclipse takes place when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface. Unlike solar eclipses, the event can be safely observed with the naked eye, binoculars, or telescopes.

“This is a great chance for people, especially students and astronomy enthusiasts, to connect with science and explore the wonders of our universe,” a Suparco spokesperson said in a statement.

This eclipse is also known as a “blood moon” because the Moon takes on a striking red hue during the phenomenon. The color occurs when sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere is filtered and scattered, casting a reddish glow onto the Moon’s surface.

The last total lunar eclipse occurred in March this year, while the next rare event in the region will be a total solar eclipse, expected to be visible in parts of Europe on August 12, 2026.
