The Power Division on Saturday clarified that no changes have been made to the electricity peak hours schedule, dismissing widespread social media reports claiming an extension to include morning hours.
In a statement, the Division confirmed that the current peak hours remain limited to the standard four-hour window in the evening and night. This period typically sees a sharp increase in electricity demand due to lighting and air conditioning usage, particularly in urban commercial areas that remain active after sunset.

Officials explained that the peak hours adjust seasonally based on sunset timings, a practice that has been consistently followed for years. To meet demand during this time, additional power plants, including costlier ones not used during off-peak periods, are brought online to maintain supply.
Addressing misinformation circulating online, the Power Division called such claims “fake news” and said they only serve to cause unnecessary confusion among consumers. “There is no change in policy,” the statement stressed, adding that no morning hours have been added to the peak billing schedule.
The government urged citizens to rely solely on official announcements for accurate updates and warned that spreading false information may result in legal action under applicable laws.
