A new monsoon system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms to Karachi and several other parts of Sindh from July 17 to 21, according to the Meteorological Department.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said it is too early to determine whether the system will be strong enough to trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas, as it depends on how much moisture the system draws from the sea.

Moist air has already begun entering the country and is likely to strengthen from July 13. A fresh western weather system is also expected to reach the region by the evening of the same day.

The monsoon activity is likely to affect both urban and rural areas of Sindh. Rural districts such as Sanghar, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, and Badin may receive rainfall, while Tharparkar and Mithi could experience heavy downpours along with thunderstorms.

From July 15 to 17, cities like Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, and Hyderabad are also expected to witness rain and thunderstorms with intervals.

Authorities are monitoring the weather system closely and may issue updated forecasts in the coming days as the situation develops.
