The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has categorically denied reports circulating on social media about the release of a new Rs. 1,000 currency note. In the past 24 hours, a video and several images showing a redesigned note have gone viral on platforms like TikTok, amassing over 10 million views.

The widely shared content claims that the new note has been officially issued by the SBP. However, the central bank has confirmed that no such note has been released and labeled the design circulating online as fake.

One social media user has claimed responsibility for designing the currency note in 2024, further adding to the confusion. The design shows a different layout and color scheme, which many online users mistakenly believed to be an official update.

Responding to the viral posts, the SBP clarified that any change to Pakistan’s currency would be publicly announced through its official channels, including its website, verified social media platforms, and traditional media outlets.

The bank has advised the public not to fall for misinformation and to rely only on verified announcements from official sources. It further urged people to avoid sharing unverified content that can mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion.
