Pakistan is baking under an intense heatwave, with five of its cities ranked among the top 15 hottest places on Earth today, according to global temperature data.

Jacobabad recorded a scorching 49°C, making it the second hottest location worldwide after Ras Al Khaimah International Airport in the UAE, which reached 49.6°C. Sibi followed close behind at 48°C. Jhelum and Bahawalnagar registered 47.2°C and 47°C respectively, while Dera Ismail Khan recorded 46.4°C.

Other countries also faced extreme heat. In Saudi Arabia, Al Ahsa hit 48.5°C and Arafat reached 47.2°C. India’s Ganganagar saw 48°C. Cities in Iraq and Qatar also experienced similar conditions, with temperatures above 46°C.

This surge in heat comes after Islamabad witnessed one of its hottest days in history, touching 45°C. The city’s all-time record stands at 46.6°C, set on June 21, 1994.

Lahore was also affected earlier this week, hitting 46°C on Tuesday. This was one of the highest temperatures recorded in the city in years. The last time Lahore saw such extreme heat was in 2007, when the mercury at the airport rose to 48°C.

With no immediate relief in sight, authorities continue to warn residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
