As the intense heatwave continues to grip Pakistan, Lahore recorded one of its hottest days in 18 years on the third day of Eid-ul-Adha.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the maximum temperature in Lahore reached 46°C on Sunday, June 9. This is the highest temperature recorded in the city since 2007, when Lahore Airport logged an all-time high of 48°C.

The scorching heat made outdoor activities difficult, especially for those visiting relatives or returning from Eid prayers. The PMD has attributed the soaring temperatures to a high-pressure system affecting most parts of the country, with no immediate signs of relief.

The heatwave is not limited to Lahore. PMD forecasts predict temperatures to remain extremely high in many regions. Islamabad and Peshawar are expected to reach 44°C, while Quetta may hit 36°C and Karachi 34°C.

On Saturday, Dera Ghazi Khan and Jacobabad saw the country’s highest temperatures at 49°C, followed closely by Sargodha and Sibi at 48°C, and Gujranwala, Jhelum, Kasur, and Mandi Bahauddin at 47°C.

Authorities have urged people, especially children, the elderly, and those with health issues, to stay indoors, remain hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours.

The heatwave is expected to persist through mid-June.
