Search interest in “Aurangzeb” spiked dramatically in Pakistan on May 12, 2025, with Google Trends recording a peak value of 100 at 2:00 AM—the highest point seen in the past week. Since that peak, public engagement has remained high, signaling sustained interest in Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed, the official spokesperson of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
Aurangzeb Ahmed has emerged as a popular figure among the Pakistani public, especially the youth, praised for his calm demeanour and understated wit during press briefings.
A widely circulated video clip shows the Air Vice Marshal remarking, “I will pick up from where I left, day before yesterday, PAF vs IAF, 6-nil,” referencing Pakistan’s claimed downing of six Indian aircraft during the recent escalation. The tally reportedly includes three Rafale jets, a Su-30, a MiG-29, and a combat drone.
The current tensions stem from Indian military strikes launched overnight between May 6 and 7, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of numerous Pakistani civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. In response, the Pakistan Armed Forces initiated Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, described as a calibrated retaliatory measure.
On the Indian side, Google search data revealed that the term “Ceasefire meaning” topped the charts with over 10 million queries. This was followed by “Operation Sindoor” with five million and “Mock Drill” with one million searches, respectively.
In Pakistan, “Islamabad Airport” was the third most searched term with 100,000 queries. Other trending search terms included “JF-17 Thunder,” “DG ISPR,” “Dassault Aviation share price,” and Indian Air Force pilot “Shivangi Singh.”
PAF Conducted Largest Strike on Indian Airfields Since 1971
At a media briefing on Sunday, Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed announced that the Pakistan Air Force had conducted the largest coordinated strike on Indian airfields since the 1971 war.
He emphasized the precision and discipline of the mission, stating that the PAF had deliberately avoided targeting civilian infrastructure.
“The mission was executed on our terms, under clear instructions from the leadership,” said the Air Vice Marshal.
“India attempted to establish a ‘new normal’ through aggressive escalation. Pakistan’s swift and coordinated reply denied them that opportunity,” he added.
Aurangzeb Ahmed also noted that Pakistan’s military radar and electronic warfare systems had successfully intercepted multiple Indian drones allegedly aimed at civilian areas.
