Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is set to take charge as the head coach of the national cricket team, sources revealed on Saturday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly reached an agreement with Saqlain to stabilise the team after its disappointing ICC Champions Trophy campaign.

According to insiders, Saqlain met PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and accepted the role. He is expected to officially assume duties before Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand, scheduled from March 16 to April 5, where the team will play five T20Is and three ODIs.
Saqlain previously served as Pakistan’s head coach but was initially reluctant to return. Reports suggest he had concerns about team selection, particularly regarding all-rounder Shadab Khan’s role. However, following discussions with PCB officials, he has now agreed to lead the team.
Pakistan’s performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 was underwhelming, failing to secure a single victory. With senior players under scrutiny, the PCB is also considering introducing fresh talent for the New Zealand tour.
Saqlain’s expertise in spin bowling and coaching experience are seen as valuable assets in rebuilding the squad. An official announcement on his appointment is expected soon as the PCB finalises the coaching staff before the team’s departure for New Zealand on March 12.
