The Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has identified 28 bottled water brands as unsafe for drinking, citing microbiological and chemical contamination.

The findings were based on 176 samples collected from 20 cities across Pakistan. After testing, PCRWR compared the results with the Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) guidelines, confirming contamination in several brands.

Among them, 10 brands—including Miran Drinking Water, Pak Aqua, Jel Bottled Water, and Oslo—contained excessive sodium levels, making them unsafe.

Similarly, five brands, such as One Pure Drinking Water and Indus, were found to have high arsenic levels. Meanwhile, Hunza Utter Water was flagged for having potassium levels above the permissible limit.

Additionally, 16 brands, including SS Water, Dream Pure, Sky Rain, and Karakorum Spring Water, were found to be contaminated with bacteria, raising serious health concerns.

Authorities have urged consumers to exercise caution and check official reports before purchasing bottled water. The PCRWR has called on regulatory bodies to take strict action against brands failing to meet safety standards.

With an increasing reliance on bottled water, experts stress the need for stricter regulations and regular testing to ensure public health is not compromised.
