Several customers have reported unauthorized transactions on their Meezan Bank debit cards, suspecting a potential data breach. However, Meezan Bank has assured that no such breach has occurred on their end.

In response to the growing number of reports, Meezan Bank clarified that the issue likely stems from customers entering their information on websites or apps that do not require OTP verification for payments.

These platforms can be vulnerable to data theft, which has been the cause of the unauthorized transactions. The bank emphasized that this issue is unrelated to any security lapse within Meezan Bank itself.

Affected customers have reported losing significant amounts of money, with some transactions being made in Malaysian Ringgit and later converted to Pakistani Rupees. Many of these unauthorized purchases were made on Facebook and other online platforms.

Meezan Bank confirmed that they received fewer than ten complaints regarding the issue over the past week. The bank has already refunded almost all affected customers.

They also highlighted that as part of their standard procedure, they fully reimburse any losses caused by data theft from platforms that do not require OTP verification for transactions.

The bank has urged customers to be cautious when entering personal information on websites and apps that lack proper security measures, advising them to use services that ensure OTP verification to protect their data.
