The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved a cable car project at the Indus River in Kalabagh, Mianwali, aimed at enhancing tourism in the region. The Rs. 41 million project will provide visitors with a unique experience, offering breathtaking views of the river and its surroundings.
The decision was made during a PDWP meeting on Friday, where officials emphasised the project’s potential to attract tourists and boost local economic activity. The cable car will not only serve as a recreational facility but also as a step toward developing Mianwali as a key tourist destination.

In addition to the cable car, the PDWP approved a Rs. 198.2 million scheme under the Chief Minister’s Fund for e-mechanization. This initiative focuses on supporting local production of agricultural machinery to modernise farming practices and strengthen the agricultural sector.
The combined cost of the approved projects stands at Rs. 239.2 million. The provincial government has been actively working to boost tourism and regional development.
Earlier this year, it announced a glass train project connecting Rawalpindi and Murree, part of the Murree Development Plan. The 65-kilometer train route, starting from Saddar in Rawalpindi and ending in Bhurban, will pass through scenic locations like the Margalla Hills and Barakahu.
These initiatives reflect the government’s broader vision to improve infrastructure, promote tourism, and create new opportunities for economic growth.
