Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday approved the launch of the ‘Dialysis Programme Card,’ increasing treatment funds for each dialysis patient to Rs1 million.

Chairing a meeting, the CM directed health authorities to ensure free tests and medicines for dialysis patients. She also instructed the Punjab Healthcare Commission to implement SOPs across all dialysis centres and maintain close monitoring.

Expressing concern over the recent Multan AIDS outbreak among dialysis patients, the CM called it both “regrettable and shameful.” She emphasised that halting dialysis procedures due to funding issues was unacceptable and directed authorities to ensure uninterrupted treatment.

The briefing revealed that the free dialysis programme was benefiting patients from across Pakistan, including Sindh, Balochistan, and other provinces, as Punjab continued to supply free medicines nationwide.

The CM also discussed health infrastructure improvements, instructing the establishment of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess the health department’s efficiency. She reviewed a progress report on the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital and ordered the immediate appointment of its head.

Reports on the ongoing projects of PIC-2 and the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha were also presented. CM Maryam Nawaz directed that PIC-2 be equipped with the latest technology and turned into a state-of-the-art facility, while urging advanced training for specialist doctors to improve healthcare delivery.
