The Power Division has introduced a winter relief package aimed at reducing electricity costs for those using additional power during the colder months.
This package, active from December 2024 to February 2025, will offer a flat rate of PKR 26.07 per unit on electricity consumed over last winter’s usage.
Under the scheme, residential, commercial, and industrial consumers will benefit from this discounted rate, which applies only to extra units used above the previous winter’s consumption.

The initiative is intended to increase electricity demand during winter, helping the government manage excess capacity and stabilize the grid.
Earlier discussions suggested the package might launch in January with a smaller subsidy of PKR 12 per unit. However, the government opted for a larger discount starting in December to maximize the relief period.
With this plan, officials aim to increase power demand to between 8,000 and 15,000 megawatts, encouraging more electricity usage while also addressing seasonal fluctuations in power needs.
The government sees this package as a step toward better resource management and easing energy costs for the public.
