Hungary’s labor market is grappling with shortages particularly in cleaning, construction, engineering, manufacturing, agriculture, and personal care services, according to Schengen.News.
The number of job vacancies in Hungary has increased massively over recent years, with 79,000 openings reported in 2023, according to Statista.

The recent EURES report outlines a range of occupations in Hungary facing notable worker shortages, including:

2. Delivery and courier services
3. Waste sorters
5. Construction site labourers
6. Civil engineering workers
7. Forestry workers
8. Farm labourers
9. Various cleaning staff
10. Sewing machine operators
11. Embroidery and textile workers
12. Cabinet makers
13. Preservers of fruits and vegetables
14. Meat and fish preparers
15. Handicraft workers
16. Wood and basketry artisans
17. Decorative painters and engravers
18. Insulation specialists
19. Plastering workers
20. Roof installation experts
Hungary has recently revised its immigration policies for third-country nationals amid rising migration numbers. Under the new rules, guest worker visas will be restricted to foreigners employed by designated employers from specific countries and in particular job roles.
Furthermore, those with guest worker permits can now renew them for a maximum of three years only.
