The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued an alert for heavy monsoon rains across Punjab, starting today until July 20.

A spokesperson announced that most districts will see heavy rain and strong winds. These rains are expected to bring relief from the current heat and humidity.

However, the heavy rainfall could also cause flooding in rivers and canals, creating risks for the affected areas. South Punjab is particularly expected to receive heavy rainfall from July 17 to 19, increasing the risk of flooding and related problems.

Irfan Ali Kathia, the director general of PDMA, has urged major city administrations to stay alert and prepare in advance to reduce the impact of potential flooding and storm damage.

“Storms with these monsoon rains could damage electric poles and solar panels,” Kathia warned, advising residents and authorities to take necessary precautions.

An alert has been sent to relevant administrations, urging them to take proactive measures for public safety and to minimize disruption. The PDMA emphasized the importance of having preparedness and response plans ready to effectively manage the situation.
