The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued directives to address smog and environmental pollution, focusing on vehicles emitting smoke and the installation of water meters in all societies.
Justice Shahid Karim presided over the hearing of petitions filed by citizen Haroon Farooq and others seeking remediation of smog.
During the session, the court ordered the installation of tire cleaners on service roads and called for strict action against vehicles emitting smoke, ordering that such vehicles be kept off the road until they are repaired.

The member of the judicial commission informed the court about a significant issue concerning dead chickens in Tollinton Market. The food authority seized 47,000 kg of dead chickens, but the vehicles transporting them could not be traced.
The Safe City project has been tasked with tracking these vehicles.
Justice Shahid Karim questioned the responsibility for Tollinton Market, to which the Member Judicial Commission replied that the area falls under the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the market association.
Further, the commission member reported that out of 581 service stations in Lahore, 518 have recycling plants, and notices have been issued to those lacking such facilities.
The lawyer for the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) stated that water meters are being installed in houses. The court directed that these meters be installed in all societies to ensure proper water management.
