President Dr. Arif Alvi on Monday denied a story that quoted him as saying that Gen. (retd.) Qamar Javed Bajwa had supported the PTI in the Senate and during the 2018 general election. He called the report “self-concocted” and out of context.
The President’s Secretariat released the statement in response to a report in The News that reported Alvi as saying, “Gen Bajwa and his team” had assisted PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Senate and the elections while the group was out to dinner on Saturday.
“The statement has been quoted out of reference to the context and is twisted and self-concocted,” it read the statement by the President house.
The News reported that when Dr. Alvi was questioned during the gathering about the deterioration of the PTI leader’s relationship with Gen. Bajwa, he responded that he was still searching for the solution.
According to the story, the president claimed it probably happened in October of last year and again in April or May of this year.
The president was also reportedly questioned about whether Imran had ever considered firing the former army leader, to which he reportedly said, “No, I don’t think so. That was untrue.

According to the report, Dr. Alvi claimed that he had also orally urged that a compromise be reached and elections be scheduled at the end of April or in May to both the administration and the opposition.
It is important to note that Bajwa and the military were charged with aiding the PTI in both obtaining power and managing its affairs. Ayaz Sadiq, the minister of economic affairs, invited Bajwa to discuss his “part” in “ensuring” the PTI’s win in the 2018 general election on Sunday.
