The plea for an early retirement from Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed of the Bahawalpur Corps has been approved by Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif.
He was up for the position of army chief, and his retirement date was set for April 2023.
Lt Gen Hameed had earlier submitted his application to General Headquarters (GHQ), which then transmitted it to the Prime Minister’s Office via the Ministry of Defense for approval.
After General Asim Munir and Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza were selected by the federal government as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, respectively, the development occurred a short time after (CJCSC).
