China is set to reduce import tariffs on ethane and select recycled copper and aluminium raw materials starting next year, as announced by the government on Saturday.

The Ministry of Finance detailed adjustments to various import tariff categories, effective January 1. These changes aim to boost imports of high-quality products, stimulate domestic demand, and support high-level economic opening, according to a statement.

Under the new measures, provisional import tariffs lower than the most-favoured-nation rates will apply to 935 items. Specifically, import tariffs on ethane and certain recycled copper and aluminium raw materials will be reduced to promote green and low-carbon development.

Conversely, tariffs on commodities such as molasses and sugar-containing pre-mixed powders will increase, while those on cyclic olefin polymers, ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymers, and automatic transmissions for specialised vehicles like fire trucks and repair vehicles will be reduced.

Additionally, tariffs will be lowered on products like sodium zirconium cyclosilicate, viral vectors for CAR-T tumor therapy, and nickel-titanium alloy wires for surgical implants, supporting advancements in healthcare and technology.
