The Sindh government has announced a significant update to its vehicle registration system, requiring owners to replace old license plates and registration books starting next year.
Beginning April 3, 2025, the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department will phase out traditional plates in favor of new designs featuring the cultural Ajrak pattern.
Private vehicles will switch to white plates, while commercial vehicles will adopt yellow plates with the Ajrak design. The old plates will no longer be accepted after this date.

Additionally, the department revealed that traditional registration books will be replaced by modern smart cards, which will also become mandatory by the same deadline. The new smart cards are designed to enhance efficiency and reduce the risk of fake registrations.
The department has urged vehicle owners to make the switch promptly to avoid any inconvenience, as this move aligns with Sindh’s broader push for modernization and transparency. A formal notification has already been issued to ensure a smooth transition.
