Pakistan is poised to embark on a transportation revolution with plans for its first high-speed rail project linking Lahore and Rawalpindi.

A proposal, submitted to the Punjab Chief Minister, outlines a project estimated to cost around $1.6 billion.

The high-speed rail aims to reduce travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi to less than two hours by allowing trains to reach speeds of up to 250 km/h.

The project is expected to receive funding from the Department of Planning and Development, but acquiring initial financing remains a significant challenge.

If approved, this high-speed rail initiative will be a major advancement in Pakistan’s infrastructure, offering a faster travel option between two key cities.

In addition to the high-speed rail project, the Punjab government recently approved a tram service for Lahore. This initiative was announced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif during her visit to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters.

The tram service will span 11 kilometers with ten stops and is expected to cost around Rs. 27 billion. The tram route will connect prominent areas including Main Boulevard, Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road.
