Imran Khan, the imprisoned founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated that he is prepared to apologize for the May 9 riots under the condition that the CCTV footage of the events is made available to the public.

During a media interaction at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan emphasized that releasing the CCTV footage would help pinpoint those responsible for the May 9 riots. He asserted that if the footage reveals PTI members were involved, he would both expel them from the party and offer an apology.

Imran Khan claimed his party is the real victim of the May 9 events and questioned the suppression of evidence. He labeled the concealment of evidence as a crime and described his detention as a ‘kidnapping,’ demanding an apology for his alleged abduction.

Imran Khan asserted that peaceful protest is a fundamental right and reiterated his call for the release of CCTV footage to uncover the real perpetrators. He added that if he were fearful of the May 9 incidents, he wouldn’t have pushed for a judicial inquiry into the riots.

Khan also expressed willingness to engage in discussions with the military for the country’s benefit.

“The army is a national institution, and its protection is everyone’s responsibility. We do not want chaos; I am ready to talk with the army for the sake of the country.”

In response to a question, Imran Khan clarified that while PTI did not use petrol bombs during the May 9 incidents, such devices were used by party supporters at Zaman Park in Lahore. He stated, “We only used petrol bombs at Zaman Park. If any PTI official is found responsible for throwing petrol bombs at institutional buildings, they should face severe punishment.”
