At least 1200 people were killed throughout Turkish regions and at least 230 people were killed in Syria as a result of a strong 7.7 earthquake that slammed Turkey‘s southern provinces.
According to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on Monday was centred in the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmaras Province and struck at 4:17 am.
Fuat Oktay, the vice president of Turkey, claims that there have been at least 284 fatalities and 440 injuries in Türkiye.

Syria has also seen at least 237 fatalities, official media cites the health ministry. Additionally, more than 500 injuries were reported.
According to AFAD, the earthquake in Türkiye occurred at a depth of 7 km (4.3 miles), and it was followed by 66 aftershocks, including two that impacted the southeast Gaziantep province with magnitudes 6.4 and 6.5.
