Following disrespectful remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, hashtags calling for a boycott of Indian products began trending on Twitter in Arab countries, India’s ruling party banned Sharma and expelled Jindal. Following the Arab world’s outrage, both of them offered public apologies. Indian envoys have been called by Qatar, Kuwait, and Iran, while Saudi Arabia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have made comments condemning the two BJP spokespersons.

Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, has sharply criticised recent disrespectful remarks made by two BJP leaders in India about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

PM Sharif wrote: “I condemn in strongest possible words hurtful comments of India’s BJP leader about our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Have said it repeatedly India under Modi is trampling religious freedoms & persecuting Muslims.

“World should take note & severely reprimand India. Our love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is supreme. All Muslims can sacrifice their life for the Love & Respect of their Holy Prophet (PBUH).”

The Pakistani Armed Forces strongly reject Indian officials’ insulting remarks.
