At the United Nations, the name of the Republic of Turkey has been changed from ‘Turkey’ to ‘Türkiye.’
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu wrote to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday, demanding that ‘Türkiye‘ be used instead of ‘Turkey’ in all circumstances, according to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.
The nation name change took effect as soon as the letter was received, according to the spokesperson. Cavusoglu announced on Tuesday that the letter had been formally submitted to the United Nations and other international organisations.
